The bell trilled loudly, making half the students in their chairs start suddenly, awakened from their sleep.
Drake smiled politely at Ava. "I'll see you later," he said, "Maybe after school?" he tacked some hope into his voice.
She smiled too. "Sure," she nodded.
Ava was beginning to doubt Aaron. Was Drake really as bad as he made him out to be? He seemed mighty fine to her. Maybe it was just some brotherly hate that caused him to think in a biased way about Drake. Drake was just a normal boy trying to make it through a different life -- like all of them.
Drake slid up next to Bella with a small smile as they exited class. "Do you happen to know where room 201 is?" he asked, glancing at his schedule before looking up at her, "I really should have asked Ava, but I... You know," he gave a shy chuckle, "Sometimes you do things before you think it through,"
Jasper was waiting patiently outside the classroom, waiting for Bella as always, when he noticed the boy talking to Bella.
He had a pale pallor like a vampire, bruises under his eyes like a vampire, and even smelled like a vampire, but he... Wasn't a vampire. In a way. Odd. Jasper's brows furrowed in confusion.

>>> She didn't recognize Drake.
Well, Bella didn't even know him, so how could she recognize him? She had no clue that he was Aaron's brother. They didn't look enough alike for an immediate connection.
Quel coincidence. Bella's next class was in 201.
"Uh, yeah, I'm going over there now, so I can show you the way." Bella tried her best to sound friendly and polite, even though she felt tired and sluggish. Her attempt was probably pathetic, though. "You're new, right?"
That was a stupid question, she scolded herself, but a pathetic attempt was better than none at all, right?

"Oh, thanks! And, yes, I'm new!" he smiled in a friendly way, ignoring the stupidity of the question entirely. Oh, and the awkwardness that just seemed to flow off of her like filth flowing from a river. Well, nothing like a nice compliment to break the ice, right? Especially since her boyfriend was right there, walking silently along. "You're quite pretty, you know. You should hold your head up higher," he smiled again.
I sound like a gay fag, he thought with venom.
Jasper stiffened. This boy was not hitting on Bella, right? Maybe he was just gay. Yeah, probably. He sounded like it, definitely. And he looked kind of stoned too. Not that Jasper had anything against gays, or stoned gays, but this boy was a creep. The way his eyes were some how alight and hiding darkness, the weird way his scent was. Stoned gay. Aforementioned.

>>> Um, okay.
Yes. That was initially Bella's first reaction. She talked to him for maybe five seconds tops, and things were suddenly plumeting to weird. To be honest, Bella wasn't sure if that was a compliment...well, of course it was, but the second part didn't really sound like it.
"Thanks. I think. Um. What's your name again?" Her cheeks were a little pink; but mostly from asking that absolutely retarded question.
Way to make conversation. But, it was better to ask the question now before Bella was embarassed by the missing information.

He laughed. "Oh yeah! We forgot to introduce ourselves!" he seemed embarrassed by the fact, "I'm so sorry. I go by Drake. You're... Bella, right?"
Yeah, that was Bella. Des had gone through all the students he needed to know before she signed him up for school at this retard place. But it was, like everything else, merely an act.

>>> Forget about how awkward this is. Just pretend like it's no big deal. 'Cuz it's not.
She nodded, and then smiled to Jasper when they reached the doorway. "Hi. Um, this is Drake."
He's a new kid who I just met. Quirky. She didn't say those words, for obviously reasons, but she was pretty sure Jasper could tell Drake was weird. Unhuman weird. New kids were usually not human.

Jasper nodded politely, but narrowed his eyes. What the hell was this kid? A vampire, or a human? The boy--Drake--just smiled at him.
It was when they were nearly alone in the hall where Drake said in a low tone, "I'm half and half, you see. Never finished turning,"
Jasper frowned. Then shouldn't he shrivel up and die? he wondered. That was, apparently, what happened to vampires who never finished their transformation. All the stories he had heard before were horrid. They'd shrivel up and turn into zombies or something.
No joke.
